Gears of War 3 Beta Maps & Game Types Schedule

As we near the full Gears 3 beta release on April 25th, many fans are curious what maps and game types will be unlocked and when. See our full schedule below and let us know what you’re most looking forward to in the comments!

April 18th – April 24th:  TDM on Thrashball and Checkout.
April 25th – May 1st: TDM and KOTH on Thrashball, Checkout, Trenches and Old Town.
May 2nd –  May 8th:  TDM, KOTH, and CTL on Thrashball, Checkout, Trenches, and Old Town.
May 9th –  May 15th:  TDM, KOTH, and CTL on Thrashball, Checkout, Trenches, and Old Town.

        There’s no pink lancer in the beta. I’ve been playing the beta before the people who get epic edition bulletstorm were even aloud to play. I already played TDM , KOTH , & CTL. & i already played Thrash Ball, Checkout, Old Town & Trenches.

          I only have Epic Edition and got onto those maps so your not special! I played solo and just got into one and just kept playing KOTH for hours!

        i agree about the graphics.they should also go back to the GOW1 match lobby instead of this B.S. “halo/cod” style of skilled matchmaking.finding a match can take days,especially in ranked matches.UNREALTOURNAMENT 3 had dedicated servers,smooth/no lag online play and a matchmaking lobby that let you see all the rooms,gametypes,ping,# of players…all kinds of info before you join a room.they need to go back to that setup.thats what got me hooked on gears back in the day,well ,one of many things anyway

          pff Halo/CoD style you should have said “every good shooter style” What Halo and CoD are the only one’s that do it. That system sucked it’s soooo much better now, I find a ranked match in about 60-100 seconds and public is nearly instant. So get a better connection. Game companies that used that system are all converting to lobbies because that way sucks.

        they added trenches in on Thursday and when they were updating the servers it is said that they accidentally put oldtown in also but they removed it know.

        There was a friends and family plan for Microsoft and Epic that allowed early access with these game modes turned on. That is why some people have the unlocked stuff.

      I am looking forward to all of it! What I want to know is this beta really being run on Dedicated servers cause it feels like I am playing normal gears 2 but on newer and different maps! =(

          not true, the person with the best ratio is the smartest player. if your connection isnt amazing, then don’t go 1v1 in a shot gun battle, hang back with a friend and lancer the crap out of them, me and my mate came back from us 2 left v 5 re pawns and won the game because the opposite team just kept running in trying to shot gun us. the retro lancer have very strong bullet damage lol. i have yet to find someone with a better KD and win loss ratio then me, my KD is only 2.0 and my win loss is 3.1 =] and i never host games.

          No IF and i SAY IF the servers r Offline, A Pop-Up Comes up B4 U choose ur game type, stating… Dedicated servers off line for maintenance, console to console will be used. Its only happened once to me so far ,THEN TWO HOURS LATER – SERVERS Were BACK UP, MORON

        The 15th they were giving out YIP passes to play the beta over the weekend. People who are playing the beta now have Bullet Storm Epic Edition (awesome game by the way) or bought a pass to play it.

          I like the idea of the sawed off but it is way too powerful and doesnt really take skill to use. As long as the person is on your screen and somewhat close it is a kill. Tone it down a little bit so us oldschool gears players can play too.

            i dont know if you noticed, the point of the sawn off is to counter the gnaser. sawn off have basically no range, and 1 bullet. if he misses his shot, and your half decent at the game your gonna get a free kill lol.
            in my opinion they only thing they need to adjust is the damage of the lancers. in comparison to each other the retro’s bullets are way to strong. ive down 3 people with one clip from retro, i can barley down 1 person with the normal one lol.

              Agreed. The sawn-off does take some skill to use in that you have to be able to get close enough to use it for starters and like you said, if you do miss the shot, you have to wall bounce like fuck while you reload, it’s really rewarding to get the reload and kill them while theyre tryna shoot the hell out of you!

              There’s only 4 shots in the sawn-off, but the potential for 8+ kills if applied correctly. The gnasher has something like 12-16 rounds, and is still worthy of downing at mid range, the sawn-off can barely even tickle an enemy at more than 2 metres! If you complain about gettin killed by the sawn off, try keeping your distance!

              Maybe the retro should be toned down slightly but not much – the accuracy is so bad, I barely managed to down an enemy standing still at long range with 3 round bursts, that’s where the original lancer comes into play and is best for squad based take downs when your whole team takes part spraying an enemy.

              Loving the one hit headshot on the active Boltock btw!

        going to disagree there I feel that the gnasher needs tweeking I would say put it at a 3 dmg instead of a 4 and keep the sawed off the way it is. Gnasher should be used for ranged not close up and sawed off is perfect for close up you have to be on top of someone to kill them pretty much so it would equal it self out that way.

      Dedicated servers, huh? I’m a little confused. Starting on Tuesday the 19th, I have been getting messages of something like “host has left he game, migrating new host”. WTF is that? And what has been SO ANNOYING it always happens AFTER a round is over, and we have to play the round over again.

        Ranked game types are hosted on dedicated serves while social are still player hosted. epic games are using the beta to test both methods of hosting. so stop flamming, this is the reason they have beta’s.
        Also this can happen because the game still chooses someone to host the game settings, not the actual connection and if they leave it needs to pick someone esle.

      The beta is awesome. I am looking most forward to the May 2nd thru May 15th. I am an annex, king of the hill and guardian player. However, I do like the new team deathmatch mode. It does seem like some people can use the gnasher just as well if not better than the sawed-off. What’s up with that?

      Sick of TDM already on only 2 maps… I’ve only completed 10 matches and it’s fun, don’t get me wrong, I just need varying game-play or I get bored easily… Also, I can’t seem to get the hang of the sawed off or the retro, so I’ll probably just stick to the classics… I know people are diehard Gears fans and have played countless hours of Gears 2 online, but I have always enjoyed the campaign more than the multi-player in Gears…

      Im already tired of just playing those two maps, about TDM is ok, but only two maps a hole week is insane. Btw you should check the server, sometimes is super lagy and it doesn’t even migrate the host.

      When I got a ViP code, it was fantastic. We had all 4 maps and 3 game types. Then on April 18th, they got rid of it all except TDM on Thrashball and Check Out. Why?! I got 13/15 CTL matches. :(

      Why buy Bulletstorm the Epic Edition? Why not buy Bulletstom?

      You should buy the first one for the extra addon The Gears 3 Beta and let me tell you it`s a big screw over. You get early acces on the 18th with 2 whole maps and that`s it, nothing more.
      But when you buy a Xboxlive card for a couple of months the fun really starts, You get a whole lot more for your money…

          i don’t think they will scrap guardian, it was by far the most played game type, and there will be alot of angry people, including me if they do.
          just go on gears 2 and look, the only list with any sort of population is guardian. i read on the offical gears beta FAQ that CTL is REPLACING submission, didn’t say anything about guardian though.

            And CTL is actually nothing like Guardian except that in both you have a leader. I also found CTL incredibly boring..

      Gears 3 beta gameplay is great but in my opinion the graphics are more cartoony than in the other gears games (im playing on 1080p HD TV). Much prefered the realism of the graphics on gears 2 so hope this can be changed for the actual game. Saying this it is only beta and the idea of it is to gather opinions such as this. Please sort it EPIC.

      Love the Beta!! My only problem is lag. The first 3 days it was awesome, but last night the lag was terrible!! 3 of us against one guy and he took about 15 shots without getting hurt i think thats a little too much. Long story short a bad night but besides that I love all the new stuff. Just fix the lag please!! I know it might be impossible but at least try!!

      Sawed off should not be a starting weapon, it’s awesome as a pickup weapon that the teams have to fight for.

Please name a achievement in the game “poop stain” and make the discription say : to earn you must down your opponet then smoke tag to kill them! 15 gears fans asked me to ask you guys that! :) 2.         If they did that it would take the whole point of the sawed off away……. its meant to be able to destroy people at close range, if you are having a problem with people killing you with it stand back a little and down them with the retro or the gnasher. The sawed absolutely sucks if you are more then 5 feet away from the person. However saying that i do think they need to make the gnasher able to one shot some one charging you with the retro if you shoot a moment before they hit you.

      Pues yo pienso que el juego está bien, pero los graficos no son como en gow2. Sigue habiendo ventaja para jugadores con mejor conexión. Hay demasiados logros inutiles cuando acaba la partida, solo sirven para confundir. Los disparos con en arma lancer se ha hecho imposible. Las bombas de gas no son tan potentes como antes.
      Por lo demás, tiene buena pinta.

        Agreed in team deathmatch everyone is stealing kills. True u get less score for doing it but noone cares about that they care about K/D. That is y i will be playing warzone and excecusion like old times. Because if u got someone down typically people honored that since kills a harder to come by. With team deathmatch people r dying every second so noone cares. Its all those call of duty players. >/

            i strongly agree with you on this point. i’m so tired of getting 97-100 point assist on kills. also i’d like to see them make it like COD did you down the person and someone takes it you get the kill and they get a 40 point assist.. So come on EPIC work with us here plz

          Especially in the Beta where a requirement to unlock a weapon skin in the retail version is getting kills with the weapon. If you down someone but someone kills them, you don’t get the credit for the kill, which makes it that much harder to get the necessary number of kills. Granted, the weapon-specific executions do add to the kill list, but how do you unlock said execution? By getting kills with that weapon.

          In my opinion, kill-stealing is the #1 cause for rage-quitting in Gears of War. Well, for me it is.

And then Trenches, old town, checkout and thrashball from Gears 3 beta. Mercy and Overpass didn’t get voted to be in the beta but they’re in game. So the only maps which no1′s ever seen before are aftermath, azura, dry dock, cove, rustlung, artillery, hotel and sandbar…

      Characters stated in the vid… Weapon skins for Lancer Gold lancer, Black lancer, Deadly cute etc?

      Please note this guy leaked info BEFORE the beta came out and he even got that information correct about skins and characters…

      I loved gears one but after that two n three just seem glitchy n slow. Great ideas but come on what’s with the shotgun being so slow. It’s no fun having shotgun battles anymore. Preferred the blood on one as seems less in your way. I agree that it looks too cartoony. Epic need to realise that and sort it xaus as gears 3 is I’ll still be playing the first. No other gears gives you that feeling when it’s just you vs four.

          your as dumb as the other kid. Gears 1 was a completely individual based game. The next two made it more team based to win especially gears 3 and team deathmatch, seeing as you need to work as a TEAM to keep your lives and win.

        your a tool and prob a call of duty lover… Im tired of kids whining for gears of war one. Each game evolved, like sequels are supposed to. I know when gears two came out i didnt want to play the same exact game i just played for the last two years and now theyve stepped it up again and kids like you whine for a game like gears 1. All of them are great in there own right and a true gears player can play all 3 just bc your good at 1 which your probably not and you suck at the other two no one wants to hear your crying.

      I have some issues with the SO shotgun. It isn’t really overpowered, it is just very annoying and takes almost no knowledge of the sticks to get a kill with it. I realize it has a lot of things to gimp it, but lets say you and a teammate are going to kill a guy at close range who has a sawed off; one of you will most likely die, even if you out play the other guy. To me it seems like the kind of weapon that a person who has a hard time getting kills in GOW will use so that maybe he could get at least one kill, or win a couple fights at close quarters. Also, if a good player uses the sawed off, it becomes even more annoying. And finally, the way you have to play when using the sawed off is also really irritating for the other player. Even if the guy misses with it, which is hard to do, the next step for him every time is to run the hell away as fast as possible. It just removes a lot of the fun shotgun play in GOW is so well known for. I’ve thought of ways to try and nerf it, but anything that would fix these issues will either turn the sawed off into the gnasher or defeat the purpose of having it in the game at all. My only solution I could think of is to increase the range and make it a pick up, but besides that it just doesn’t belong. Besides this issue and a couple bugs being fixed, I think gears 3 will be greatness.

      yeah match making is slow. but gears 1 lobby was very hard to match up with your friends

      I’m a fan of gears and i like gears 3 beta but it’s starting to lose it’s feel a bit . The boards are to busy compared to gears 2 and a bit confusing i miss the slower speed from gears 2 you also go down way to easy . I like the new weapons but it’s sometimes hard to find them because of how busy the board looks and it takes to long to pick them up . I don’t like the over the wall kick. The locus looks cool but the gears don’t look as big and rough and vains popping out . The lack of the host power is great one thing i hate about gears 2 that is now on gears 3 is planting gernades in multiplayer . The kill should go to the person who down them i’m tired of kill stealers . My favorite weapon the shotgun feel a little different when blind firing the person getting hit does not really show to much reaction to being shot or maybe it just moves to fast and i didn’t realize it.

      I miss my solid two peice moves yes i like the b botton and that navigation directer to show the circle is hard to see i miss the one from gears 2 and again i don’t like the faster pace that was the unique thing about gears it made you feel every kill you get like you blew away a locus in real life . Now everything happens so fast you gotta wait for your name to show who beat who.

      so far?… cartoon graphics, hold time on wepons pickup,toooo much time to reload the new shotgun, and still not fair that other people got in it first. BAD move from epic games. I did not purchased bulletstorm because it sucks… but to get acces early if you buy it?, thats simply not cool. but in all is still the same fun game, new maps some new wepons but that’s all I see so far. I have to admit just wanted to unlock the flame hamerburst but $60 are not worth it.

      PS: GOW1 had the best matchmaking system. I miss it :(

      I just started playing this morning as well. I’ve really been digging to get the unlocks and its really ruining the game for me. Once I can get unlocked what I want to unlock and the stress is gone, I can enjoy it more.

      So far really, I’m pretty disappointed with the Multi-player altogether though. Gears of War 3 is definitely a campaign single-player experience for me. Gears of War was designed to veer away from the “run and gun” experience and really emphasize the “stop and pop” sort of gameplay. But, there’s not real incentive to play the way it was intended and everyone just runs out into the field running and gunning with that FPS mentality so the game is losing its identity. Not to sound like a fanboy, but when I’ve been playing Uncharted, it has more of that stop and pop.

      I just think everyone has gotten so caught up in unlockables, leveling up, hitting the leaderboards, that the way the game was meant to be played is losing what Gears of War is all about. Co-Op modes in Gears of War 2 were the ways to play, but competitive multi-player hasn’t sold me. Sorry Epic, try again.

        I think….your a fag. True the stop and pop is gone. But y is that? Because its this new stupid game mode called team deathmatch. Because of the respawns noone cares about dying. Once the full games comes out with warzone and execution. The stop and pop will return. People will be more couscous about their lives since its 1 and done. Epic just did this so that COD lovers would have something to like about gears. I agree it ruins the game. But the other modes for hardcore gears fans will be back too. So we can play those. And when has gears ever been about the single player? O thats right never!! True its a good single player game but the defining thing is multiplayer. .

          As for Gears, who said the “stop and pop” is gone from the beta? Yes, people just run out there chickens with their heads cut off at the beginning of TDM games, but that’s because they know they’ll respawn if they die early in the round. As the game plays out and the live counter drops down, people start to become more cautious about what they do, fearing that if they die again, they won’t respawn. Epic did not do this for the CoD fans, as the Gears TDM mode is based on number of lives, not about achieving the required score to win like in Call of Duty.

          For the campaign: if the selling point is about the multiplayer and not campaign, then why are they adding 4 player co-op campaign? Multiplayer is the replay value of the game, which is what keeps the people playing Gears, or any other game that includes Multiplayer.

      gears of war would be even better if they added some kind of executioner stopper like when your on the ground crawling and a opponet comes up kicks you over on your back getting ready to stomp your head in your teamate would be allowed to push him off or kill himm and you would be able to come back

      The game would be better if:
      Flaming guns have fire bullets
      Retro Lancer in Gold :)
      and be able to add attatchments to guns

      is it possible to increase the bullet resistance just a little? because you cant really enjoy the fight if you go down 1/4 of a second into it.

      great beta so far only problem i ran to is the gnasher seems to be really powerful at the range people take me down at. I would prefer the weapon to be toned down jus a lil bit not too much and also when i was play at checkout where the nades spawn my teammate fragtagged a down enemy and i accidentally grabbed him and when enemy exploded my character literally froze in place 4 3to4 seconds

      epic really need to reduce the power of the Retro lancer, you can down people with about a third of a round. if they made the lancer a bit more powerful this could also help.

      i also hate if you’re on trenches and you have the one shot but someone comes in close range to kill you and you have to drop the one shot, if you manage to kill them the one shot just disappears and you have to wait for about 2 minutes before it re spawns

      if someone stills your down kill you should still be rewarded the kill and the person who steals the kill should only get assisted points. People be stealing to many kills

      they need to keep the guardian game mode in and change the team death match and make it a score limit instead of a certain amount of deaths. Also change the way ppl die back to the gears of war 2 way because it was much funnier.
