Gears of War 3 Title Update 4 Release Notes

We are set to release Title Update 4 for Gears of War 3 tomorrow morning at 2:00 AM PT. Once the update is live you will automatically be prompted to download it if you are connected to Xbox LIVE. Here are the release notes of Title Update 4.

IMPROVEMENTS

Savage Drone and Savage Grenadier can now “swat” turn in Beast mode
Spectator mode now starts viewing a player instead of a battle camera
Alternate control users in multiplayer will no longer look at DBNO characters when pressing R3
The crosshair for the Longshot and Hammerburst will now show an X if a shot is obstructed.
KOTH – ring locators are now visible in spectator mode
KOTH – some hill locations have been adjusted

BUG FIXES

The Onyx Guard decoy in Horde will not drop his rifle after exhausting the Vulcan ammo
Clients will no longer be stuck with a “Waiting For Players” message up if the host quits Horde during the progression screen
Chainsaw audio loop will now persist for listeners who leave the audible range and re-enter it
Fixed some instances where special event ribbons would not be properly awarded
COG pistol firing rate has been adjusted to be equal on host and clients
The Flaming Retro Lancer is now available for attendees of the first special event
Fixed some issues fixed related to the destruction of meatbags
The Slab start up screen no longer has debug text
After a host migration in Horde, the waves will no longer go past 50
Cover near the elevator on Hotel no longer allows players to lean outside of the visible area
Grenade throwers that are killed mid-throw will receive credit for any kills that grenade causes
Silverback will be disabled if hit by a smoke grenade when the driver is in the middle of the exit animation
Team Deathmatch time limit no longer resets to 3 minutes when both teams are out of respawns

        It’s not a bug that will ever be fixed. The did it on purpose to stop people glitching their rank and now they keep it in because people who get reset play for longer and are more likely to pay for extra maps.

        Even if you would start over again you cannot endgame. Some of the onyx medals is broken due to the database error that occured.
        
        For you other noobs that don’t know what your talking about, saying this is a boost bug and that this is a intentional bug. It’s pure incompetence, fixing an error like this takes about 15 minutes if you know what your doing.
        
        If you have this bug, your game freeze. It also makes your game freeze more often. It happens atleast 1 time within 50+50 waves of horde. If it don’t happen during that, your probably not YET affected by this bug. But you will, and when you are you will cry like a baby, i promise.
        
        Tip: When it happens, open the disc tray and xbox will unfreeze, start from same memory that you did last time and your daily progress is not completely lost (does not work all the time though).

    If you knew half of what you think you know, you’d know that boosting isn’t what causes your rank to be reset. There’s a couple of reasons why ranks get reset, the most common being having turned off your console during the time that your end of game stats are being saved.
    
    Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. G.I JOE!!

    in gow 2 the ink grenade would block a whole doorway and you couldnt use it (campy gameplay) and frags would be planted on the walls much like gears 3 but the crap host connection wouldnt allow you to avoid the explosion (more campy gameplay)

        I agree FIX THE INKS!! These grenades seem to be more effective in GOW2. The grenades should have the same type of impact as the frag, and incendiary grenades. Either make them last longer, or make them more stronger!

        I think the ‘Ink Grenades’ are perfectly fine! Much better then they were in Gears of war 2. I love how it stuns a player and if it lands straight on top of them or whatever. It’s almost an instant death. If you think they’re not strong enough or whatever you’re obviously pretty crappy at chucking those Inks

        Yes, the inks, if anything, need to do less damage. The stun is fine but it should not be an automatic kill.

Inks and incendiary should be used to divert traffic flow for maps like smoke grenades do in actual combat the ink shouldn’t stun you, ITS A POISON SMOKE GRENADE WTF…. but if hit directly you should die. now on to the incendiary they should increase radius and duration on it but it shouldn’t kill you if not hit directly with it there should be a radius like within 2m your most likely dead 3-5m should damage you but you can get out of it. And again if hit directly should kill you. now for the gnasher its a secondary so weaken it so it could be a secondary. It forces kids to use there primary for long to mid range kills instead of just running around with a gnasher. i can understand if you point blank someone but c’mon an active shot can put you down with one to two shots if your within 5m of them. That’s what they should do. The saw’d-off keep same should have shitty damage unless pointblank, no barrel = no range. And all of this is to make it competitive because right now gears 3 standard are horrible for it to be a competitive game. Trust me no one wants to watch MLG for longshot and shotty kills.

They are inconsistent as hell, I could shoot my entire gnahser point blank at people, not even down, they shoot me with their gnasher at a 15meter distant, almost down in 1 shot. Same goes with every weapon. Half a clip of my lancer, people are down, 3 bullets from others, I’m down and so on. Also my sawn off range is limited to actual melee range, I see others blowing me to shreds from middle range. My grenades only kill when they are less then 30cm away from the target, others kills in a 5m blast radius. Grenade tags never work, people can keep running and don’t get hit. If I evade a grenade and there’s even a wall between me and the tagged grenade, I still die.

I went through that phase, blaming the game for my incompetence, but after puttin’ a few hours in and tweaking my reaction time, I realized it had been me who stank, and not the game. And as for the distances at which you get downed from, take into account your aim, hit detection, and active reloads.

  I know how to fix your problem….. dont pick up grenades and stay back and wait for ur target to mess up(roll toward u or get stuck on wall from trying to wallbounce) then blast them and make them never make that mistake when going up against you

What about being able to change weapon classes on SPLIT SCREEN multiplayer after you die? As it is right now, you can never change the class once the game has already begun. This only happens on split screen.

Wat about host I only bought this game cuz it says on the back dedicated server this is false advertisement…. Laggy connect makes u beat ass but when u have a great connect u can’t kill anything…. ECT there is so much wrong with this game its garbage I been a gears player since gow and this is just disappointing you always make it like its better and ur doing nothing in surprised people still even play this crap…

  The servers are dedicated for ranked and quick match multiplayer. They are not dedicated for horde and beast simply because a host has to choose whether or not to restart the round. If you don’t have the Fenix Rising maps, then you have to play on host unless you do player’s choice. I don’t see why they couldn’t do it like Call of Duty, where if someone is in the lobby without the maps then the maps don’t come up for selection. If you’re lagging on ranked and quick match and you have the Fenix Rising maps, you need to check your connection to the internet.

He’s 100% right they gave us dedicated servers in the beta and then we get this garbage on release then they demand we pay $10 just to get 3 maps with dedicated servers that suck anyway.

Love gears of war period. If you have a problem with it. Simply hit that eject button and your probs are solved. Now if you are a hardcore Horde player. Please send me a friend request. I play horde every day. I have mutators but they dont have to be used. My gamertag is (Reaqer) And dam am i lookin forward to the new DLC. So Epic you could fix some of the more pressing issues. Need to have ways to unlock skins without havin to go back and play gears of war 1 or 2 and earn certain things to unlock them for the 3rd. But i can live with my liquid metal skin. It works fine with me. SO everyone enjoy GOW3 and chill out.

Dedicated servers should be on horde. If you have to keep it off of quick matches that’s fine, but either give horde servers or separate quick/joinable and ranked horde.

i cant stand people saying hit detection is fine, that it must be your aim. no smartass, on gridlock some guy was sniping on top of the stairs opposite to where the inks are. he was crouching, and didnt see me come up the stairs as he had his back turned. i was point blank on him, used LT to aim, blam then walked away. only to hear him dive (reflex action to my gun shot). i could not flipping believe my eyes. i won the shoot out that followed but i was mad as all hell. please fix the gnasher epic, its inconsistent and doesnt stand a chance close range against the retro.

The retro needs to be fixed and here’s an idea. The main problem with the retro is that its fully automatic, so you can hold down the trigger close range and drop someone with a gnasher in less than 2 seconds. By the time you shoot the gnasher and cock the lever once, you’re already down from the retro (if you were unable to get the one shot kill). Why not make it so the retro overheats after like 3 or 4 shots and CANT go fully automatic. Or make it a slow burst like the gorgon was in gears 2. This way the shots MUST be controlled and it cant beat a gnasher close range. It would still have a mid range advantage over the lancer and hammerburst because of the damage that it does. This would balance things nicely. No rifle should be able to beat a shotgun at close range. I mean really, a short range rifle? That makes about as much sense as a long range shotgun. MAKE THIS CHANGE EPIC! RE-POST THIS IF YOU AGREE!

Unlike a lot of games, the Gears series has always been great with a lot
of title updates to keep the game as crisp and clean as possible; For
example Skyrim came out with a million glitches and what were the first
things they fixed? Graphics and other bullshit nobody cared about while
leaving the larger problems like being unable to finish quests, or items
glitching and staying in your inventory, etc. Also to those who don’t
care about the spectating modes being fixed or the horde/beast modes
having some work done, shut up, because people play horde and beast a lot too; it
ain’t just about being online playing against people, it’s about being
able to enjoy all the aspects of the game no matter what style of gamer you are, single player, co-op, or vs multiplayer; and the spectator mode update allows for better judging of players who are holding trying for a competitive team or for “refs” to ensure nobody is cheating in a tournament match.

A meh job on this upcoming Title Update #4, but you forgot about what made your Gearheads turn away from this game. The rifle damage on the lancer, retro lancer, and the hammerburst is too overpowered. When people join in on quck matches and horde mode, they don’t spawn as their character; instead, they spawn as the default characters. When playing versus multiplayer-while using boomshots and gnashers- the opposing players would “sponge” or eat shots; meaning they don’t die, especially the DLC characters. The hit box on female characters must be identical as the male characters. Have all bullets and shots be registered, not robbed. While playing quick match, gamers shouldn’t be receiving the same XP points as in ranked matches; it should give you one fourth of what you earned out of the match. Apparently, you guys, Clliff Bleszinski, Rod Ferguson, and the entire Epic Games, have no desire to do that. You know what’s wrong with this game, but you’re unwilling to do that. You’ve got your money and you’ve changed the way of what was once a great Gears franchise. All you’ve gotten are your Call of Duty revenue and made your loyal Gears fans walk away. This game doesn’t feel like Gears of War 3, but more of a Call of Duty atmosphere. Why don’t you look at the videos that are posted on YouTube and see for yourselves of people ”sponge” gnasher shots, the excessive camping, the damage on players when they’re being hit by the rifles with less than a few bullets, the list goes on. Observe carefully and you’ll see why people are no longer playing this game. One last thing: the Halo franchise never changed their style and gameplay and they’ve stayed committed to what they’re doing. If they can do it, why couldn’t you?

you guys at epic should play a match using the gnasher against a team full of retros and see just how useless the gnasher has become in gears. point blanks range best weapon is now Sawed off. close range best weapon is now easily the Retro. far range is lancer or hammer burst. so the gnsher(a hard to use weapon and also what made gears of war what it is has been reduced to complete and utter nonsense. easily defeated against easy mode weapons even at close range

  also i forgot to add. i understand guns like retro are for newer players so they dont feel intimidated. i cant get upset at that decision, but it really becomes hell when good players who know what they’re doing use this to their advantage and start using retro 100% of the time. there is just no hope to defeat them if paths cross. i was forced switched to retro to stand a change but honestly, im not having fun if i cant use my weapon of choice against a team full of retros.

FFS Fix the “profile reset when game freeze” bug. So many people leaves your game because of this. People that never buy your games again. They will remember your EPIC FAIL.

I see people on my friend list being struck buy this bug almost weekly. That’s only 50 of your active players. Imagine how many that is actually suffering from this bug. Last time it happened to one of my friends is just two days ago. Take care of this, make it a priority or ill never buy your games again, ever. This is the last if you dont fix this soon.

I am sad to hear that they haven’t done anything with regional matchmaking. I get put into matches with people from Mexico and Canada almost every time. The matches are so laggy! I don’t understand how the game went from no lag in the beta, to very little lag in the first 2 months, to extreme lag now. It just takes all the fun out of playing. Lag is the cause of most of your complaints about the gnasher not working. Let the US play US players, let Canada play Canadians, and let Mexico play Mexicans!

  My brother just got a rapid fire controller. We tested against just pressing the trigger and I was just as fast everytime with the hammerburst and most the time with the pistol. Just use the retro it is a better weapon anyway.

Thanks for the update and attempts at fixing this already great game. That said on to my complaints…

I have a 40 Mb/s download and 10 Mb/s upload and my number one complaint is lag. I play matches that have good connections and then some more players join and it becomes almost unplayable. Display our ping for us to see. Add a custom mode where people can edit game play settings like gears 1 and still allow online players to view and join someone else’s host.

Matchmaking should be by K/D ratio or some form of true skill. Rank is meaningless for multi-player and while I love to own bitches that artificially inflated their rank, something should be changed. XP should be based on the stats of the person you are killing. Bots being very very low and if I kill a bad ass with a 3.0+ K/D I’d like to be rewarded appropriately.

The only things that need updates in gears of war 3 are weakening all rifles and the sawed off, weakening power weapons such as the digger and boomshot, making meat shields weaker, and making ink grenades not stun you.

i use to be addicted to the gears series but now…the lag (which causes sponging) and the OP rifles are just really annoying. i have left this game for Halo reach, which isnt great since bungie got lazy with reach, but at least the game is consistent and allows creativity. i completely eliminate COD from the discussion because call of duty is so easy that its just boring. eventually i will be going back to the classic games of halo 3 and gears 1. All of the new games nowadays are just beginning to lack the ‘fun’ factor—mainly because the developers aren’t doing anything to fix problems. Like really? how are you going to fix the minor problems instead of the major problems? It doesnt make sense to me at all. i highly regret spending my money on the season pass. they haven’t released anything special really. just a bunch of recycled maps and characters that have already been released. the new maps that they have released aren’t anything special either…Gears 3 hasn’t impressed me at all. i would rather spend 60 bucks on the beta, because the beta didn’t really have any major problems. good bye gears.

the only thing i would love to see is Epic make the retro lancer a normal lancer with just a bayonet attached instead of chainsaw. b/c we all know the retro as is is the most unstoppable weapon in the game and people milk it for kills. 3 0r 4 active bullets and your down. or a weak as close range retro poke and 1 bullet. honestly sucking the fun and skill out of the game and don’t understand why epic would try to appease to the noob outside players versus taking care of its Gears 1-3 faithfuls. I’m reading all these complaints about people camping, but when shit hits the fan i.e. (horde mode) these John Rambo want-a-bees come crawling yelling “revive me.” It is a defensive strategy when you are camping and you’re defending your turf! Some of these folks should respect the fact that these “campers” show stability and fortification for the team. Also, Lancers not Gnashers gave this game its identity.

lets just get ride of the op retro and the fact they keep bringing the old maps back like be more creative why would u bring back maps everyone knows and make the game try to feel the same if that is the case then I’m calling it gears 2.5 so when is 3 coming out

epic forgot that gof1 was the best game ever.. fuck it all up with gow2.. and now made a total piece of shit gow3.. lol ..gow1 was the reason for xbox live acc, it was fun , the drama the action the shit talking while waiting for the round to be over.. where if you were skilled you take on the hole squat… not no more .. all we need it was dedicated servers on ( GEARS 1..) fuck epic..
