Epic to Host GDC Drop-In Hours, Oculus to Release Custom UDK

It’s one of our favorite times of year: The annual Game Developers Conference has kicked off, and we have loads of news for everyone this week.

Drop In, Come See Us!

Unreal Engine 4 on IGNDuring each day of the GDC exposition (Wednesday, March 27, through Friday, March 29), Epic is hosting dedicated drop-in hours from 10 – 11 a.m. PDT at our booth in the business center, North #BS322.

These time slots are specifically designed for independent developers and teams who haven’t already secured an appointment to stop by and chat with one of our dedicated territory managers about any questions regarding Unreal Engine technology.

GDC attendees who show up for drop-in hours will be entered into daily raffles for state-of-the-art NVIDIA GTX TITAN graphics cards, which are virtually and physically flying off shelves.

We encourage folks to check out NVIDIA’s booth, South #1602, which is showcasing Epic’s very own Samaritan and Elemental demo content along with a sneak peek at what we’re presenting behind closed doors this year. The entire GeForce wall highlights the progression of our next-gen technology! As a heads up, NVIDIA will have a special reveal from us at their booth on Friday starting at the opening of the expo and running throughout the day.

The Future of VR Is Unreal!

oculus-rift-prototype_800.0_cinema_640.0Today we announced that Oculus VR will release a custom version of the Unreal Development Kit (UDK), the free edition of Unreal Engine 3 (UE3). The special UDK release will ship during the first week of April, giving all Oculus developers award-winning Unreal Engine tools for day one support, right out of the box.

In addition, as Oculus is now a member of Epic’s premier UE3 Integrated Partners Program (IPP), we are providing UE3 full source licensees with the Oculus integration code at no extra charge.

Oculus is showcasing two fantastic Unreal Engine demonstrations at GDC this week as well. The first is Hawken, the incredible mech shooter from Adhesive Games, who started out building their game and easily upgraded to a full source UE3 license. The second awesome VR experience that must be seen to be believed is Epic Citadel – our expanded snowy version as demonstrated by Oculus on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

There’s never been a better time to be an Unreal Engine developer. We’ll have more to share with everyone soon throughout the week. Stay tuned and be sure to follow @UnrealEngine!

Hi I am here yo post on something else since Epic Games makes Really cool Games. This is a suggestion and maybe a great new look for old games that can be brought back to Life. Please don’t laugh at this lol. DIGIMON. Graphics is so advanced now that Metal can look like metal and all other materials right. So Making a Digimon Game that characters dont look like plastic toys rather than A kind of Doom and Turok Graphics Look. But starting off with the smallest rookie characters. There is more The story Line must be exellent and Levels looks Like Unreal Tournament like. And also if you cheate more of these Digimons You can Sell Each creature at a certain Price to Update That Game for more and more and more Fun. How does that sound. But obviously Choose What type of Digimon You want to Evolve to. Lets say for instance if you are lvl1 and want to evolve to lvl2 you get 2 or three tipes of evolutions and can choose you evolution path. Sorry to post here can give this Idee to UDK Themselves I cant contact them. Thanks anyway for reading. might enspire to you to look into this.

      Dear Epic Games,
I purchased your game Gears of War Judgement and got it the day it came out and I bought your VIP Pass and I think that it is unfair that I cant play your multiplayer on your game until I buy your DLC which I am not going to do. I can still play regular playlists but I cant play any of your VIP playlist and there is no point of me spending 20 dollars on your vip pass and cant even play on it. Your company really ripped me off of 20 dollars for something I cant even play on your dumb game. Any other video gaming company would never do this to one of there games. I am going to sell your stupid Gears of War judgement game and I will never buy one of your games ever again because of this. Why dont you all learn to make a game that doesn’t suck and one that doesnt make people buy a dumb vip pass that you cant even play on unless they buy your stupid DLC. I used to like your gears of war games 1 through 3 but after dealing with this, after getting ripped off like this i will never buy a game from your company again.

I recently downloaded the UDK 3 development kit. I am dumbfounded to realize that this editor is garbage. Granted, it is beta, vertices don’t work, line selections don’t work. If there is a specific procedure and order in which things are done, documentation is no good. Half of the examples have dialogue boxes that look like Windows 3.1. Do you or are you ever gonna release an editor that is sound? I would be willing to purchase said editor if it worked. Please stop taunting me that your product will build a game, when it won’t even do a demo. I am a for real developer that wants a product that will perform. (even if it has to be licensed.) but if your demo can’t do the basic functions I need, how am I ever gonna invest in your software?
