Epic Games Store Opens its Doors

Epic Games is pleased to announce the launch of its official online store, where fans can get their hands on specially designed merchandise and apparel based on the company’s renowned brands and characters. Collectible items at Epic’s store, located at http://www.epicgamesstore.com/, are exclusive and cannot be purchased anywhere else.

Epic gear and goods may be ordered now with expedited shipping to arrive in time for holiday gifting. Notable mentions include “Gears of War” clothing and artwork, new t-shirts based on “Infinity Blade,” “Unreal Tournament,” “Jazz Jackrabbit” and Unreal Engine, as well as Epic Gamer apparel. Of course, the introductory collection wouldn’t be complete without a t-shirt dedicated to Epic’s Impossible Studios, which comes emblazoned with the Internet-approved Impossibear mascot.

“We’re excited to launch Epic’s official store and provide our loyal fans apparel and merchandise that they can’t find anywhere else,” said Kendall Boyd, Epic’s director of marketing, worldwide studios. “Our hope is to grow our brand via channels such as the Epic Store and celebrate all of our terrific intellectual properties with the community.”

Epic Jack O’Lanterns

Over the years, we have seen a lot of great pumpkins and Jack O’Lanterns with themes from our games. We’d love to see more! Post a picture of your creation on the game’s Facebook wall.

If you’re thinking of carving your work of art from one of our older games, you can post it to the Epic Games Facebook wall. We will choose five random submissions on Halloween day to receive an Epic Games swag pack. The pack includes:

Epic Games Twitter Headers

Twitter has a great new feature which allows you to add a header image to your Twitter home page. We’ve created a few based on our games and studio for our fans to use. We hope you enjoy them!

To change your header image, go to your settings page on Twitter.com, click on “Design” in the left hand menu bar then click on change header.

Click on the images to see them full size, then right click and save as.

Escapist Expo Recap!

Last weekend the Epic Games crew attended the inaugural Escapist Expo in Durham, NC. As a part of our gold sponsorship of the event, fans were able to register for the 4 v 4 Gears of War 3 tournament for free on Saturday. We also had Multiplayer Designer Quinn DelHoyo and Lead Level Designer Jim Brown on hand to emcee the event and meet fans.

Also on Saturday Quinn and Jim shared their thoughts about the shooter genre on the “Future of the Shooter” panel along with developers from Insomniac Games and Red Storm. The panelists shared some really interesting thoughts about shooters using virtual reality-type technology in the future or incorporating other genres to include all types of players.

Prior to the tournament Quinn, Jim, QA Testers Brian Roberts and Donald White all faced off as a team against players that wanted to try their hand at beating the Gears 3 developers. There was also an autograph signing with the Epic Games team and fans were treated to Gears of War: Judgment posters and Fortnite Durrrburger hats. There were lots of great Gears of War cosplayers at the event as well including an Anya Stroud, Sam Byrne, Marcus Fenix and Onyx Guard.

Epic Games at Dragon*Con 2012: Recap!

If you were at Dragon*Con this year you know it was hard to miss the Epic Gamer presence everywhere! We had several awesome panels in the new video game track, directed by the President of Epic Games, Mike Capps and his wife Julianne.

The first Epic panel took place on Friday and featured the upcoming mobile game Infinity Blade Dungeons. Writer Brandon Sanderson and Lead Designer at Impossible Studios, Ian Frazier were the panelists. Attendees had the opportunity to check out the teaser trailer and ask questions about the Infinity Blade universe.

On Saturday fans of the upcoming game Fortnite were treated to a sneak peek at the game courtesy of Gameplay Programmer Billy Bramer and Mike Capps. Everyone in the audience was wearing their Durrrburger hats and one lucky fan received a golden ticket for early access to the game!

We really felt the Gears love on Sunday during the Gears of War Judgment panel. Epic Gamers filled every seat in our panel to see exclusive footage from Gears of War Judgment and learn more about the new modes: OverRun and Free-For-All! There was also a large group of amazing COG and Locust cosplayers alike in attendance. Both Lead Level Designer, Jim Brown and Mike Capps had lots of great Gears info to share and even hinted at some Easter Eggs from Gears 3 that have still not been found!

Wrapping things up on Monday was the “Meet Epic Games” panel that included Technical Support Manager Preston Thorne, Marketing Assistant Natalie Brickell, Ian Frazier, Billy Bramer, Mike Capps and Jim Brown. The panelists shared their stories about the history, culture, and growth of Epic as a company followed by some great questions from those in attendance.

There were even more great video game panels at Dragon*Con this year including “Getting into the Games Industry”, “Reaching the Fans” and “Creating Characters in Video Games” to name a few. Other developers like Bioware, Gearbox, Riot Games, and more had a presence and talked about their upcoming titles. Be sure to mark your calendars for Labor Day next year so you can join us!
