Aaron JonesAt Epic Games, we have a lot of very active people who do amazing things both inside and outside of the office. We have people working out every day, including Community Manager Will (@Raczilla} Kinsler and Marketing Director Kendall Boyd. We also have people who take things to the extreme, like Senior Concept Artist Jay Hawkins and Engine Tester Aaron Jones.

Jay is a strength trainer who has been lifting in one form or another for 15 years. Jay does short, intense workouts that include cardio and heavy lifting. Epic Games Art Director Chris Perna. Senior Cinematic Artist Grayson Edge and Senior Concept Artist Shane Pierce are also heavily into strength training.

You may remember Aaron Jones from THIS community story. Aaron runs marathons, he’s a snowboard, hiker, soccer player, hockey player and he loves to go camping. Even our very own President, Mike Capps has run the NYC 26.2 mile marathon!

Is there something you have done that is amazing? Did you ever ski in the Alps? Go deep sea diving with sharks? Go on a rescue mission?

We want to hear from you! If you have an amazing story to tell let us know in the comments below, Facebook or in our Epic Gamers forum. Also let us know which games you play from Epic. We plan on doing a community post and you might just hear from us!

Andy Bayle - Southwest Guilford High School PresentationAndy Bayle from Epic Games recently visited Southwest Guilford High School to talk to students about getting into the video game industry, specifically what it takes to land a career at Epic Games. Andy talked to the Sci-Vis class  where students learn about the following disciplines and software products:

  • Autodesk 3D Max
  • Webpage Design
  • 2D/3D design
  • 3D modeling
  • Animation

Andy’s presentation included talking about the paths to get into the industry and the extra step it takes to be Epic. He also presented stories from Epic staff about how they got to Epic. From the perfect scenario, to exceptional drive and determination, Andy let the students know that getting into the game industry isn’t always the easiest path to take, but it is a very rewarding experience.

Andy Bayle - Southwest Guilford High School PresentationAndy also talked about Epic values and let the students know how important it is to learn UDK if they are interested in getting in the video game field.

After the presentation, the students were asked if they had any questions. The questions were about our games and which programming language they should be learning. Andy also brought some Gears of War 3 posters to hand out to the students. Andy had a great time and he’d love to do it again.

Chris Perna as a COG by Alvaro “Sanyaca” StuardoLast week, Epic Gamer of the Month Alvaro “Sanyaca” Stuardo sent us his drawing of Epic Games Art Director, Chris Perna as a member of the COG Army. The likeness was amazing and Chris was really touched by the gesture. Along with the prizes Alvaro won for being Epic Gamer of the Month, we will also be sending Alvaro a print of the image signed by Chris.

Have you ever drawn yourself as a COG soldier or manipulated an image to make you look like one? How about a Locust? We’d love to see it! We’ll gather the favorites and put them in a community post at a later date.
