Welcome to this week’s Fan Art feature! Tim from the Team Epic Gamers here, to feature an awesome artist from the Epic Gamers group on deviantART.

Say hello to GaryStorkamp, who has a gallery full of fun. Varied with both digital 2D and 3D work, and of course, Gears of War fan art, he’s no doubt one of the well-known Epic Gamer Artists in the community. One of his most popular pieces, titled “Gears of Fun”, features Damon Baird taking a break from killing grubs. Even COG Soldiers need some time off from work!

If you want to see some more of of his work, definitely check GaryStorkamp’s page out on deviantART. If you have something you’d like to show us, be sure to visit the Epic Gamers group on deviantART or post it on the Epic Gamers forum.

Epic Moms: Part Four, CherIn part four of our Epic Mom series, we talk with Team Epic Gamer and beloved forum admin, Cher. Cher met her husband Brian through a mutual friend she lived with, Candace. Candace introduced her to him and they started dating. They are still together, 17 years later.

Cher has been gaming since she was a little girl and started with the Atari 2600. She started playing Gears of War in 2008, when Brian asked her to help him gain some Gears of War campaign achievements. She was reluctant since she had never played a shooter, but agreed to help. She immediately got hooked on the game and found herself playing alone when he was at work.

Epic Moms: Part Four, CherCher’s favorite gametype in Gears of War 2 was Guardian and was very happy to find out that we were bring the gametype back in the last title update. Epic Games Lead Level Designer, Jim Brown, plays with Cher often and knew Guardian was her favorite. He couldn’t wait to break the news to her.

Cher said, “Going back to my Gears of war 2 days, Guardian was the mode that captured me the most. I loved how it was more of a team based game and how every player was “assigned” a duty. I had a group of guys that I played with and we unofficially called ourselves “The Dream Team.”

We just all flowed so well together and without saying a word we knew our roles, in and out. *shout out to turbz, LT, Roland, and Porsha* Fast forward to the addition of Guardian in Gears of War 3 and I’m beyond thrilled! It’s such an awesome game type and I have THE BEST TIME playing it.”

Epic Moms: Part Four, CherWe asked Cher what other games she plays. “Borderlands is pure genius.  RockBand and Lips will always be in my top favorites too. I’m not much of a singer, but I like to think I am! I also love “horror” type games like Saw and Condemned. Scary is always good in my book. Then there is “Draw Something.” I love to play it on my phone with my husband and Flak!”

Cher has two beautiful daughters, Taylor and Hayden, who are very happy to have such a cool mom.

ArCtyC's Gears of War 3 Sensitivity GuideDid you ever wonder what control scheme and sensitivity settings competitive players use in Gears of War 3?

A few months after Gears of War 3 was released, Epic Gamer and forum member arCtyC created a comprehensive controller sensitivity settings guide.

ArCtyC recently updated the guide to reflect the higher sensitivity settings introduced in a title update. He also discusses the alternate control scheme in the post. The following is just an excerpt; you can see the full guide on the Gears of War 3 Forums.

Example:

Default Control Scheme

Press “A” to Take Cover
Press “A” to Mantle and hold to continue to roadie run

Alternate Control Scheme

Press “A” to Take Cover
Press “A” to Mantle off of cover
Press “X” to continue to roadie run

All-in-all I think that the Alternate Control Scheme is better for evading and wall bouncing once you have become acclimated to the scheme. The Alternate scheme could be perfected if the Mantle was assigned to the “X” button which would create the same number of button presses as the Default control scheme.”

Keeping your head about you will be difficult this weekend as the Torque Bow Tag event in Gears of War 3 will be running. If you don’t see the change, please restart your console. You will then be able to choose the Torque Bow Tag playlist in Team Deathmatch. The event ends Monday morning at 9:00 AM Eastern.

Let us know what you think and share your stories in the comments below. For fans on Twitter, join in on the Gears of War 3 and Torque Bow tag conversation by using the hashtag #GearsWeekend to let us know what you think and which event you would like for next weekend!

In the second of our “Epic Mom” series, we interview Epic Mom and cosplayer Kim Harvey. Kim is married to cosplayer and Gears of War fan, Dale Harvey.

Flak: How long have you been playing Gears of War?

Dale and Kim HarveyKim Harvey: I started by watching my then boyfriend rage and scream at the screen while he was playing gears of war 2. It looked quite brutal and fun so I asked to play and he almost broke his hand trying to quickly give me a controller! I’ve been playing campaign and horde mode with him ever since.

F: When did you start playing video games?

KH: My roots go way back. I started on pinball and was addicted and then moved on to the 2600, Duck hunt, Mario, Super Mario ( a personal favorite!) and Zelda. I don’t get to play as much now, but I still play gears when I can with my husband and comment on Grayson Hunt’s hair in Bulletstorm. Marvel vs. Capcom 3, NCAA Football and Madden are favorites. I beat Dale in a Madden tournament held right before the opening of the new Cowboys stadium!

F: How did you and Dale meet?

Kim Harvey CosplayKH: I saw some of his artwork and I was drawn to it.  I wanted to find out more so I stated talking to him and saw that he was crazy! ;)   The Mohawk should have given it away, but strangely I didn’t run away screaming.  It didn’t take me long to be captivated by his sense of humor.  The rest is history.

F: Could you tell us about your Queen Myrrah cosplay?

KH: The first time I saw Queen Myrrah, I decided I had to have that helmet!  My husband worked with a very talented artist from Australia to make it happen. Between the two of them and all their effort they made it possible!  My husband worked on the remainder of the armor pieces for about a month before PAX East.  I can only take credit for helping with the painting of the armor.  We are currently working on modifications and additions for the next con.

Dale Harvey: ” I will love her a much as I can for as long as she will let me.  She is an amazing mother, and I wouldn’t want to do any of the cosplays that I do if she were not with me.”
