Gears fans, we hope you’re ready for a big weekend of Gears 2 action! There’s always a lot happening in the world of Gears online and we’re introducing something new starting today to help keep you up to date with all of the activity. Every Friday we’ll put a post here on the Epic Games Community Site called Gears Weekend.
This post will include information about Gears related online events and how to win some cool prizes. Check out the details of this first Gears Weekend and let us know what you think in the comments.
21 x XP in Gears of War 2
During the 4th of July holiday in the U.S. and in honor of Epic’s own Gears XP guru Joe Graf’s birthday (you can wish him Happy Birthday here tomorrow on Twitter) we’re running a 21 x XP event from July 1st to July 5th in Gears of War 2. When you hop on to play you’ll find 21 x XP, Flaming Bloodmounts, Boomers, Tickers, 4 x Mortar Ammo, and 4 x Hammer Of Dawn Ammo. Be sure to visit the official event thread on the forums for additional details.
GearsCON Community Night 4.1: Season Taster Session
Gears of War fan site GCON is hosting Community Night 4.1 this Saturday as a teaser for their full season of Community Night events. This season GCON are working with a number of partners including TriForce to give away some great prizes. We’ve sent some Gears of War goodies this week for their 4.1 event. Join the Conversation and Win Swag!
Every weekend moving forward we’ll use the #GearsWeekend hashtag on Twitter to track our Gears online discussion. Talk about what game modes you’re playing, when you’ve got your wings, and more. We’ll randomly award prizes to those who use the #GearsWeekend hashtag to join in on the conversation. Rumor has it some Cole Plushie codes might find there way into Twitter this weekend.
If you’re not on Twitter we’ve still got you covered. On Mondays following Gears Weekend we’ll put up a recap post of all of the activities and award a prize to one person who comments on Friday’s info post. If you’re playing over the next couple of days be sure to tell us about your Gears Weekend in the comments below. You might win some Gears swag.

Comic Con is upon us and with it comes another Gears of War 2 XP Event! #GearsWeekend comes early this week and the event starts at 9:00 AM EST Thursday morning to coincide with the start of Comic Con. According to Gears of War 3 Executive Producer Rod Fergusson, the event features 20x XP and Horde enemies with mixed up weapons. The 20 x XP is to celebrate the release date of Gears of War 3 September 20th 2011.
Every Gears Weekend we randomly award prizes to fans who tell us about their Gears related activities by using the Twitter hashtag #GearsWeekend. Be sure to tell us if you’re playing through campaign, trying to stay alive in Horde, or if you manage to get your wings. This weekend we have more Cole Plushies and Xbox LIVE Lancer avatar items.
On Monday we’ll randomly choose one lucky commenter to receive a prize pack that includes Gears 2 Gold Weapons, a Cole Plushie, and an Xbox LIVE Lancer avatar item.
