Gears of War 3 Has Gone Gold!

Epic Games Executive Producer Rod Fergusson announced today to the staff at Epic Games and the world that Gears of War 3 has gone gold. The arena at headquarters was filled with excited Epic staff members as Rod made the announcement. After the announcement was made, Rod had PR Manager Dana Cowley roll out the cake and he along with Design Director Cliff Bleszinski cut the cake with a Gold Retro Lancer. The cake was a gift from Microsoft. The consensus was the cake was delicious.

Gears Weekend: Return of Gold Weapons

It’s Gears Weekend time!  Here’s what’s happening this weekend:

GCON LogoOur friends at GCON continue the tradition of bringing amazing weekly events to the Gears community.  This weekend, the focus is on competitive gaming in the form of a featured match and GCON lobbies with competitive settings.  Head over to the official forums thread for more info.

Gears of War 2 Gold Weapon HammerburstLast week we randomly awarded Gold Weapon codes to fans who told us about their Gears activities on Twitter by using the #gearsweekend hashtag.  Due to the popularity of the weapons, we’re bringing them back!  Look for winners to be announced periodically on the @gearsofwar3, @raczilla, @iflak Twitter accounts.

*Friendly reminder: Posting often about your #gearsweekend activities is great, but be sure you’re not just spamming the hashtag as that may make it difficult for folks to follow along. 

Coalition’s End

In honor of the release of Coalition’s End, we’re randomly awarding a hard cover copy of the book to one lucky fan who tells us about their Gears Weekend in the comments below.  The book is autographed by author Karen Traviss!

Gears Weekend: Recap July 29, 2011

GCON LogoGCON had a fantastic Gears of War 2 event this past weekend. “GCON 4.3″ was sponsored by Calibur11, the company behind the Gears of War 3 Case Vault and everyone had a great time.

Liam Ashley (Hooligunn) ran another successful live stream with Calibur 11’s own Paul and Coy. Liam was able to not only play in some ranked matches with Paul and Coy, but he also was able to ask them questions asked by the community and give away Calibur11 Berserker T-Shirts and Golden Lancer codes for Gears of War 2.

Stay tuned this coming week for when GCON announces their next event  and sponsor for the weekend ahead – it’s going to be big!

Rod FergussonEpic Games‘ Executive Producer Rod Fergusson also had a live stream on Friday evening where he answered lots of questions and at the end of the chat, Rod gave away a signed copy of Coalition’s End by Karen Traviss.

It also rained gold on twitter and the forums. We gave away loads of Gold Hammerbursts and Gold Lancers for Gears of  War 2 and there will be more to come!

Gears Weekend: Recap

Marcus Fenix Epic Scale BustAnother Gears Weekend has ended with a bang. We had lots of DLC and avatar item winners, GCON had a blockbuster event and Kevin S won our #GearsWeekend Prize Pack. The GCON event was sponsored by TriForce and the staff gave away a Limited Edition Marcus Fenix Epic Scale Bust. GCON also announced they will be giving out an award for the Most Valuable Fan.

We hope everyone had a great time playing, I know I did! I played Wingman with User Moderator Cher from the Epic Games Forums and we had a great time. Cher also gave out some Cole Plushies on the forum to a few lucky members.

We’d like to see everyone for the next Gears Weekend Event which will coincide with Comic Con!  If you’d like to give your ideas for the XP event, head over to this thread and post them in the comments.
