On Monday, the Epic Games Community Team canvassed the streets of New York City giving out Gears of War 3 Epic Editions, Limited Editions and the Grand Prize, A Gears of War 3 Limited Edition Console. Fans were running all over town trying to catch up with the Team and answering trivia questions. The Grand Finale of the Scavenger Hunt ended in Central Park with Epic Games Director of Production Rod Fergusson giving out a Gears of War 3 Epic Edition and Epic Games Design Director, Cliff Bleszinki handing out a Gears of War 3 Limited Edition Console. Congratulations to all of the winners!

Times Square

In New York’s Times Square, over 1,000 fans flocked to the Best Buy Theater to be among the first to play Gears of War 3, witness a giveaway of a “Gears”-inspired chopper from Paul Jr. Designs, meet the Epic Games team, and experience a musical performance by Big Sean. The first person in line, David Tyson, was treated to Gears of War swag and a photo op with Epic Games Design Director Cosplayers Sarah Speer and Dale Harvey showed up as Bernie Mataki and COG Soldier, respectively, and were stars of the event. At the end of the evening, Gears of War series Author Karen Traviss,  Cliff Bleszinski and Epic Games Director of Production Rod Fergusson stayed on until Every console and poster was signed.

Los Angeles

In LA, Microsoft Century City Gears of War 3 fans were treated to a signing by voice actors John DiMaggio, (Marcus) Michael Gough, (Carmine) Nan McNamara, (Anya) Lester Speight (Cole) and Fred Tatasciore (Baird). G4′s Adam Sessler was there interviewing the cast and talking to fans.

United Kingdom

The UK’s Gears of War 3 launch campaign culminated in an epic midnight madness celebration at GAME’s flagship store on Oxford Street. Carlos Ferro was on-hand giving interviews and greeting fans. From the early evening, fans kept arriving to join the queue and this continued well past midnight, with the line wrapping around the block until 2:30AM. The fans were very excited about getting the chance to meet with the voice of Dominic Santiago.

Cary, NC

Locally, Epic Games staff descended on retailers for their launch events. At Best Buy, the Gears of War 3 soundtrack played on the store’s loudspeakers as fans met with the Gears of War 3 developers. Nearly 200 people showed up and were treated to Gears swag and trivia contests. Event organizer and Epic Games Engine QA Team Member Shelley Franklin said, “There were stations set up for matches of Gears 2 (swapped out for 3 at midnight) and once they got going they stayed full for most of the night.” Shelley said the event was a great success.

Epic Games Sr. Programmer Joel Crabbe told us that over 200 people turned up at the Crossroads Gamestop and they did very well answering Gears of War trivia and walked away with lots of swag. Epic Games Lead Animator and  Sr. Engine Programmer Niklas Smedberg visited the Beaver Creek Gamestop where they had a truck with 8 stations running Gears of War 2. They also had a Gears of War 2 Tournament, Nerf Gun target competition and scavenger hunts. Similar events were held all over the Cary and Raleigh area. We were very happy to have a chance to meet the fans!
