Epic Games Brings Home More Than 20 Award Nominations from E3 2010
Gears of War 3 and Bulletstorm demonstrated behind closed doors and at special events.
Epic Games just returned from one of the most successful E3 shows in company history. This year, two of Epic’s upcoming games – Gears of War 3 and Bulletstorm – were demonstrated behind closed doors and at special events.
Gears of War 3, published by Microsoft for Xbox 360, is one of the most anticipated games* of 2011. Journalists and VIPs received their first look into Gears of War 3’s Beast mode, the new five-player co-op option in which players take to battle as the most popular Locust enemies in the Gears universe. In addition, the four-player co-op demo revealed in the Xbox press briefing showed off many all-new additions to the series, like playable female COG soldiers, the Digger grenade, Lambent enemies, an arm-ripping finishing move and much more. Numerous media outlets have nominated Gears of War 3 for their Best of E3 awards, including Best Shooter, Best Xbox 360 Game, Best Action Game, and Game of Show.
GamesRadar.com – “Beast Mode, a new multiplayer option in Gears of War 3 that casts you as the bad guys and pits you against the good guys, does not disappoint. In fact, it gives players way, way more than they probably ever expected… even when you’ve gotten used to playing all the creepy critters, the underlying gameplay is a proven addiction.”
IGN.com – “It’s official: I’m excited about Gears of War 3. All it took was one little run through the new Beast Mode and I’m hooked. Little I’ve seen at E3 this year can compete with the goofy insanity of steering a Ticker towards a Gear and then blowing up in his unsuspecting face.”
1UP.com – “Enemies get blown up, ripped apart, riddled through, thwacked away, and generally mowed down… if single-player innovates on its formula as significantly as multiplayer has, there’s much to look forward to.”
Bulletstorm, developed by People Can Fly and published by EA for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, caused quite a stir and left a lasting impression on journalists and select E3 attendees. E3 hands-on sessions enabled players to dive right in and try out Bulletstorm’s unique skillshot system, which entails slaying enemies in dozens of creative ways, racking up points, unlocking new moves and competing for high scores. The more insane the kill, the easier it is to up the ante as combat progresses. Bulletstorm has been nominated for multiple Best Shooter, Best Multi-Platform Game, Best FPS and Best of Show awards.
1UP.com - “Bulletstorm knows what it is, and doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is a very good thing… Bulletstorm is on the right track to becoming a first-person shooter to look forward to. The frame-rate looks solid, there’s a wealth of death animations, and the environment looks good. I can’t wait to see more weapons, enemies and bosses soon.”
The Escapist - “…a stupid good time. It never takes itself too seriously, but is slick, inventive, and almost sure to get you giggling… Sometimes all you really need is to blow shit up, and Bulletstorm lets you do it with style.”
AOL Big Download – “Even if this turns out mainly to be a single player title, Bulletstorm is already looking like it could be a new favorite shooter for us.”
Both games deliver thrilling action and gorgeous visuals powered by Unreal Engine 3 in their own distinct ways. Stay tuned to http://twitter.com/gearsofwar3 and http://twitter.com/bulletstorm to follow the excitement.
