Epic Games’ Tim Sweeney Named to GameDaily’s Persons of the Year List for 2010
Tim Sweeney, Epic Games’ chief executive officer and technical director, has been named to GameDaily’s second annual Persons of the Year List. Sweeney has been recognized for his contributions to the gaming industry, through Epic’s games and Unreal Engine 3, and for helping Epic bring iOS support to the engine and, by default, to UE3 licensees all over the world.
From the announcement: “Infinity Blade is proof positive of how beautiful an iPhone game can look – we just didn’t know it until now! We commend Sweeney and Epic for bringing the powerful Unreal technology to the iPhone, and we can’t wait to see more developers make use of it. The iPhone has a great hi-res display, so it’s about time that we see some games that really show it off.”
IndustryGamers, who compiles the list, explains that “we selected the people in the industry who we feel had the greatest impact on the games business overall.”
Sweeney is quick to recognize the Epic team for the honor. “I’m happy to accept whatever honors the industry wants to bestow on Epic, but this is definitely something to be shared with everyone here. Our success is due to our amazing team.”
Congratulations to Tim and the Epic team!
